RENEW
RENEW is a five-question category test for AI products: Replace or amplify, Existing intent, New work, Economics unlocked, Where does the human go. Products that amplify humans and create genuinely new work build durable categories. Products that replace humans on old work get absorbed by the next platform release.

What it is
Operators, buyers, and investors all need the same call: is this a category or a feature. RENEW makes that call in five questions.
The test is directional, not a rating. It tells you where the product sits on each axis and what has to be true for it to still exist in eighteen months.
The five questions
R
Replace or amplify
Does it make a person obsolete or make a person more powerful? Amplification compounds. Replacement plays lose to larger models over time.
E
Existing intent
Does it meet buyers where they already are, or does it have to manufacture the demand? Manufactured demand stretches cycles and inflates acquisition cost.
N
New work
Could this work exist without AI, or is it a faster version of old work? Genuinely new work creates categories. Faster old work gets compressed.
E
Economics unlocked
Does it make something previously unaffordable affordable? Unlocked economics create new buyers. Cost reduction alone is copyable.
W
Where does the human go
In the amplified workflow, where does the human's remaining leverage sit? If the answer is nowhere, the seat evaporates and so does the anchor for the relationship.
The visuals
Figure
The RENEW read
Mostly right side is a durable category bet. Mostly left side is a feature that gets absorbed.
Figure
The amplification axis
Amplification plus new work is the durable corner. Everything else gets absorbed.
Productivity zone
Real value, heavily contested. Margin erodes as the capability commoditizes.
Durable zone
New work that makes a human more powerful. Highest defensibility.
Compressed zone
Feature, not category. Absorbed by the next platform release.
Autonomous zone
Rare durable bets. High risk, high ceiling, thin evidence so far.
What you get out of it
Run RENEW and you get a fast, defensible category call on any AI product. Operators know what to buy, investors know what to fund, and buyers know what to trust for longer than one release cycle.
- A repeatable lens for every AI pitch that reaches your inbox.
- A portfolio bias toward amplification bets rather than replacement bets.
- A view on which categories are still standing in eighteen months.
The mistakes it prevents
- Buying replace-the-human tools
- They compress margin briefly and get absorbed by larger models. Amplification plays compound.
- Manufacturing demand
- Products that must invent buyer intent do not scale. Cycles stretch and acquisition cost balloons.
- Selling faster horses
- Old work with AI attached is commoditized by the next platform update.
- Cost-only bets
- Cost cutting is easy to copy. Unlocked economics is not.
- The humanless workflow
- If the human does nothing, nothing anchors the customer relationship.
How it is used here
Every category teardown in the Report carries a RENEW read, and every playbook is tested against it to show it will still work in eighteen months.
We're taking work off the salesperson that's not replacing them. We're augmenting and amplifying them. So instead of them spending 28 percent of their time actually selling, we can now spend 70 percent.

Jarvis had the ability to, but it didn't. It had to take the original creative thought of Tony Stark to make Iron Man.

All skills and prompts →Common questions
- What does RENEW stand for?
- Replace or amplify, Existing intent, New work, Economics unlocked, Where does the human go. Five questions used to test whether an AI product is a durable category or a feature.
- Why does amplification beat replacement?
- Replacement products compete directly with the next foundation model release, and their advantage compresses when the model improves. Amplification products accumulate the operator's context and motion, which the model does not have.
- Can a replacement product ever be durable?
- Yes, when it also creates genuinely new work rather than automating old work. That corner is rare and carries higher risk, and the Report has thin evidence for it so far.
