Marketing rebuilt around buyer questions (L6)
Retire the campaign calendar as the organizing unit. Marketing is organized around the real questions buyers ask, each with an owner, an answer surface, and a measurement, because humans and answer engines both retrieve answers now.
The steps
- 01
Build the question inventory
Tool: Notion
Mine sales calls, support tickets, search data, and community threads for the actual questions. Not keywords, questions in buyer language. Owner: product marketing. DoD: at least fifty questions with source counts.
- 02
Assign owners and answer surfaces
Tool: Manual
Each priority question gets an owner and one canonical answer surface. Multiple competing answers is the main reason answer engines cite someone else. Pitfall: three pages half answering the same question. DoD: one canonical URL per priority question.
- 03
Instrument citation and retrieval
Tool: Snowflake
Track which questions earn citations and answer engine visibility, not just rankings. Report by question, not by page. Owner: marketing ops. DoD: monthly question level visibility report.
- 04
Fund the roadmap from unanswered questions
Tool: Manual
Next quarter's work is the highest volume unanswered questions. Campaign ideas compete against that list rather than replacing it. Owner: marketing leader. DoD: quarterly plan traced line by line to the inventory.
