Perplexity for daily research (L1)

Replace Google for any work question where you need cited sources fast. Every IC gets a Perplexity Pro account; managers expect to see Perplexity links shared in Slack instead of Google SERPs.

The steps

  1. 01

Buy Pro seats for everyone who researches

    Tool: Perplexity

$20/user/month. The free version is enough to test; once your team uses it daily they'll hit the limit by lunch. Owner: Ops. Pitfall: trying to share one team account, rate limits hit instantly and each user's search history poisons everyone else's. DoD: every knowledge worker has SSO login to their own Pro account.

  2. 02

    Teach 3 prompt patterns

    Tool: Perplexity

Run a 15-minute Loom for the team showing: 1) "Compare X vs Y for {our specific use case}" → grounded comparison. 2) "Find recent {topic} news in the last week from {industry} publications" → use the time filter. 3) "List the top 5 {category} with pricing, with sources" → use Pro search for synthesis. Owner: any senior IC. Time: 30 min. DoD: Loom in the company wiki, viewed by >80% of team.

  3. 03

Make "cite or it didn't happen" a norm

    Tool: Slack

Cultural shift: when someone makes a claim in Slack ("competitor X just raised", "this regulation requires Y"), the response is "link?" Pasting a Perplexity link with citations is the lowest-friction way to back claims. Over 4,6 weeks this kills bad-data debates. Owner: leadership models it first. DoD: leadership team is visibly using Perplexity links in their own messages.
