AI literacy bootcamp for GTM (L2)
4-week curriculum: prompting, tools, ethics, security. Measurable certification. Without this, every other initiative leaks.
The steps
- 01
Select Vendor and Map Curriculum
Start by selecting a training partner to avoid building foundational AI content from scratch, which is a common time-sink for RevOps. For GTM teams, Section (formerly Section4) or Maven are excellent for external structured learning; alternatively, if you have a strong internal Enablement team, you can build a custom path in your LMS (e.g., Lessonly, Mindtickle). The curriculum must cover four core pillars: Mastering Prompt Engineering (Chain-of-Thought, Few-Shot), Specialized GTM Tools (Copy.ai, Jasper, Clay, or Apollo), AI Ethics (bias, attribution), and Data Security (never uploading PII or proprietary code). • Owner: Head of Enablement or RevOps. • Time: 10-15 hours for selection and curriculum mapping. • Tooling: Selection between Section School, Maven, or your internal LMS. • Pitfall: Choosing a general "AI 101" course that isn't focused on sales or marketing workflows. Ensure the content covers 'Human-in-the-loop' editing. • Definition of Done: A finalized 4-week syllabus with dates, platform access for all reps, and a syllabus document shared with leadership.
- 02
Establish Data Security Guardrails
Draft a clear, non-negotiable Policy for AI Usage to prevent data leaks before the training begins. Use your Legal and Security teams to approve a 'Green/Yellow/Red' list of data types. For example: Publicly available LinkedIn data is 'Green' (safe to process), while Customer CRM records with PII are 'Red' (prohibited). Include a prompt snippet for reps to use in ChatGPT/Claude: 'Act as a privacy-first assistant. Do not use any of the following input data to train your global models.' • Owner: Legal/Compliance + RevOps. • Time: 3-5 hours. • Settings: Ensure all company accounts for ChatGPT/Claude have 'Chat History & Training' toggled OFF in the privacy settings (at the Org level if using Enterprise). • Pitfall: Assuming reps know what PII (Personally Identifiable Information) is. Be explicit about names, emails, and phone numbers. • Definition of Done: A signed AI Data Policy uploaded to the company handbook and a 'Security First' module included in the training.
- 03
Execute the 4-Week Cohort Sprint
Organize the 4-week rollout as a mandatory cohort-based sprint. Each week should focus on a specific GTM output. Week 1: Prompting for Research (Using AI to summarize 10-Ks and earnings calls). Week 2: Personalized Outbound (Using AI to find 'hooks' based on prospect news). Week 3: Content & Objection Handling (Roleplaying with an AI bot). Week 4: Efficiency & Automation (Using AI for CRM logging or meeting notes). Use a 'flipped classroom' model where reps watch 30 minutes of video and then attend one mandatory 60-minute live workshop to apply it to their current pipeline. • Owner: GTM Managers + Enablement. • Time: 2 hours per week per employee. • Example Prompt: 'Extract 3 strategic priorities from this prospect's recent press release and draft a 50-word email connecting our solution to those priorities.' • Pitfall: Making the training 'optional.' Attendance dropped by more than 50% when not tied to performance reviews. • Definition of Done: Completion of all live session recordings and 100% attendance tracking via Zoom/LMS logs.
- 04
Conduct Practical Certification Exams
Moving beyond theory, every IC and Manager must pass a practical 'Gauntlet' exam to earn their Level 2 certification. This is not a multiple-choice quiz. Instead, provide a prospect website and a LinkedIn profile, and task the rep with generating three high-quality pieces of outbound content using specific AI tools within 20 minutes. Grading should be based on 'Final Quality' and 'Time Saved' vs. their manual baseline. • Owner: Front-line Managers. • Time: 1 hour per rep for the exam + 30 mins for grading. • Tools: A Shared Google Doc or Notion page where they paste their prompts and the resulting output. • Pitfall: Reps over-relying on 'vanilla' AI output without editing. Grading should fail any rep who submits a generic 'I hope this finds you well' AI-style response. • Definition of Done: A 'Certification Record' updated in the employee's HR profile and a badge they can display internally.
- 05
Establish 6-Month Recertification Cycles
AI technology moves significantly faster than traditional software. Establish a mandatory 'L2 Recertification' every six months to cover new model releases (e.g., the jump from GPT-4 to GPT-5 or new Claude features) and updated company-approved tooling. Create an 'AI Champions' Slack channel where top performers share their 'Winning Prompts of the Week.' This keeps the community active and ensures the 'literacy' doesn't stagnate after the initial bootcamp ends. • Owner: RevOps Lead. • Time: Ongoing maintenance (4 hours per month). • KPIs to Track: 'Time saved per lead research task' and 'Response rate on AI-assisted outbound' (compared to manual control groups). • Pitfall: Failing to update the tool list, causing reps to use outdated or unauthorized shadow-IT tools. • Definition of Done: A recurring calendar invite for the next recertification window and an active repository of the company's 'Golden Prompts.'
