Are Agentic Work Units (AWUs) a billable meter on our Agentforce Order Form, or only a Salesforce disclosure / earnings metric?

Salesforce is talking about AWUs in earnings and marketing. Buyers then hunt for AWUs on the quote. That is the wrong hunt.

What Salesforce publishes

AWU is defined as a platform-level work metric, not a price. Salesforce says an Agentic Work Unit is "a platform-level metric that captures the breadth of activity happening across the Agentic Enterprise, from Agentforce to Slack," and "one discrete task accomplished by an AI agent" (prompt processed, reasoning chain completed, or a tool invoked). Same definition in Salesforce news. The company story frames AWUs as the measure of work done versus tokens consumed, with company-reported AWU totals. It does not publish a dollar rate per AWU. Salesforce news

Order Form usage language points at Flex Credits, not AWUs. The Flex Credits Rate Card says entitlements live in the Usage Details table on the Order Form, expire at the Order End Date, and do not roll over. Decision rule for Director+ teams

1. Do not put AWUs in the budget model. If Finance asks for a $/AWU or AWU quantity on the quote, the answer today is: Salesforce has not published an Order Form AWU meter. Ask for the Usage Details table instead.
2. Budget the meters that appear on the Order Form. Flex Credits (with multipliers), Conversations, seat licenses, add-ons, or an AELA-style agreement if that is what the AE quotes. Sibling: Flex Credits buying models
3. Treat AWU totals in earnings decks as adoption theater for the vendor, not your unit cost. Useful for "are agents doing work," useless for "what do we pay."
4. Watch for future packaging language. Diginomica notes AWU as a licensing experiment. If an AE ever puts AWU on a quote, get the definition, the conversion to Flex Credits or dollars, and the Order End Date in writing before you sign.
