The short answer
What's in it for you: Marklo's $5M seed for an AI campaign planner, which figures are company-stated, and five ledger lines that grade every pick on margin.
Decision rule
Judge an AI campaign planner on a recommendation log, a holdout, and contribution margin net of discounts and returns. Campaign counts and attributed revenue come second.
Operator action
This week: log every planner recommendation with its reason and the marketer's edit, hold back a matched control, and report margin 30 days after each send.

On October 14, 2026, Marklo announced a $5 million seed round led by Forerunner, with Freestyle Capital participating, and opened a public beta for brands that run on Shopify. (GlobeNewswire via StreetInsider) Crunchbase News reports the company is still pre-revenue, with more than 100 brands using the software in a pilot. (Crunchbase News)
The pitch is a planner. Marklo reads sales, inventory, campaign history and creative, adds competitor and social signals, picks what to market next, and builds the campaign for a marketer to review and approve. That moves AI one step upstream of the email and the ad. It now proposes the decision.
What Marklo announced (company-stated)
- Round: $5 million seed led by Forerunner, with Freestyle Capital and angel investors from Shopify and Klaviyo, per the release.
- Product: An agentic marketing platform for brands on Shopify. It connects Shopify, Klaviyo, Attentive, Meta, Google, Slack, Canva, Figma and more.
- Calendar: On install, it rebuilds launches, promotions, email, SMS, paid media, social activity and revenue into a day-by-day, year-over-year marketing calendar.
- Weekly proposals: Every week it reviews sales, inventory and the calendar, then sends proposed campaigns to the team in Slack or email, with the reasoning and products behind each. The marketer decides what to edit and ship.
- Named pilot brands: Away, Clare V., Monica + Andy, Maya Brenner and Latico Leathers.
- Customer example: Latico Leathers planned a full month of marketing in one day. The company says that used to take most of a week across meetings, spreadsheets and five tools.
- Pricing: A monthly subscription plus usage charges, per Crunchbase News. Free to install and try for now.
- Data: The company says customer data is not used to train AI models.
What the release does not prove
Pre-revenue with 100+ pilot brands is a signal of interest. It does not yet show that the picks made money. A planner can write a tidy brief and still make the wrong call:
- It pushes a hot product that is about to stock out.
- A sale pulls next month's purchases into this week. Revenue looks up. Margin is down.
- The same loyal audience gets hit again, and unsubscribes climb.
- Paid media takes credit for a sale that a product launch or a social post drove.
Founder and CEO Jessica Herrin named the problem herself. She told Crunchbase News that another tool flagged a Fourth of July sale as a winner and suggested running it again. Her reaction: "Hey, no, I can't. It's not Fourth of July. We don't have the inventory anymore." That is the right instinct. Hold every planner to it.
Five lines for the ledger
This is the Reversal Ledger applied to a campaign planner. Keep one row per recommendation:
- Why this pick. Product, audience, channel and timing, with the data behind each.
- Marketer edit. Approved, changed or rejected, and the reason.
- What shipped. The campaign actually sent, the send date and the spend.
- Incremental margin. Contribution margin against a holdout or a prior-year baseline, net of discounts.
- Reversals. Returns, unsubscribes, stockouts and sales pulled forward.

Line 2 is where the role mix shows up. The marketer's job moves toward judging picks and owning the result. Track how often the plan gets changed, and whether the changed plans beat the untouched ones. That number tells you who is carrying the judgment.
Who owns which line
- CMO or marketing leader: approval rules, and which campaign types may ship without a second look.
- Revenue or growth finance: the margin baseline and the holdout design, set before the first send.
- Merchandising and operations: inventory floors the planner may not promote below.
- Marketing ops or RevOps: where the recommendation, the edit and the outcome get logged so they can be joined later.
What to do this week
- If you trial a planner before the holiday season, log every recommendation with its reason and the marketer's edit.
- Hold back a matched slice of products or audiences as a control.
- Report contribution margin net of discounts and returns 30 days after each send, next to attributed revenue.
- On the order form: the usage meter, data use, export of the recommendation log, and a cap on usage charges in peak weeks.
The same test works outside retail. Distributors, insurers with several product lines and B2B suppliers all decide which product to push, to whom and when. A planner earns its seat when its picks still look good after the returns and discounts come in.
